Sensitive Teeth

Is eating ice cream or sipping a cup of hot coffee painful for you? The answer is a resounding “yes” for people who suffer from sensitive teeth.

Many adults experience hypersensitivity when they eat, drink or touch their teeth. Fortunately, dentistry can offer simple and effective treatments for this uncomfortable condition.

Possible causes of tooth sensitivity may be:

  • Tooth decay (cavities)
  • Fractured teeth
  • Worn fillings
  • Gum disease
  • Worn tooth enamel
  • Exposed tooth root

If you have sensitive teeth, the first thing is to do an exam to find the cause. Next, we will talk to you about simple ways to reduce this discomfort at home, such as desensitising toothpaste. Address clinical problems that might cause sensitivity include a fluoride gel to strengthen tooth enamel; a crown, inlay or bonding; a surgical gum graft; or a root canal.

Also keep in mind that proper oral hygiene can be the key to managing tooth sensitivity. Brush correctly and be careful not to over brush or use hard bristle toothbrushes.
